In the first year (2006) we focused on India – Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow. In 2007 we did The Trilogy. Here we looked into the lesser known aspects of the lives of Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Tereza and Abdul Kalam. What choices did they make which catapulted them from anonymity into the front pages of history?

In 2008 it was Alexander. A dying Alexander is brought back even as the conqueror of the world realises that the world is too small a place in front of his soul.

This year we look at the concept of ‘Miracles’. Rehearsals for this process are divided into two phases. Phase 1 is currently in progress with a set of about 15 actors and will culminate with a rough creation by 27 March. In the second phase the rehearsals will begin on 1 June – 24 July with about 100+ actors.

VISION 2020 productions are usually characterised with a huge cast, musicians, dancers, stunning sets and great lighting & sound. The performances are staged at the state-of-the-art Christ University Auditorium. For more information please email tie@christuniversity.in.

Armed with this dream, the duo set about working on the production with a bunch of dreamers that included Playback Theatre actors and school students. Kalam’s autobiography – Wings of Fire was dramatized for this purpose. The first performance was staged at Christ College for an audience comprising scientists, businessmen, educationists, NGO activists among others. The performance was very successful. However A.P.J seemed far away, we still did not know how he would see it, but deep inside we believed that it was possible.

The students of Bangalore Military School staged this play as part of their Pentangular Meet (a competition for Military schools). The play won the Best Play award and was a resounding success. Then 4 months after this dream first started taking shaping, we received a call from the Military School in Ajmer. We are celebrating our Golden Jubilee in two weeks time and the President is coming, can you stage the same production for us? It was a bolt out of the blue.

Soon, Sibu Vaz and Arif Mohammed were flying towards Ajmer to direct the production. To cut a long story short, the production was staged by the students in the presence of the President. He was thrilled and became very emotional as his story unfolded on the stage. He told the Principal of Ajmer school that he had never experienced anything like this. The principal of Ajmer school said he was constantly watching the president getting completely absorbed into the dramatic recreation of his life.

Every year since then a massive theatre production titled VISION 2020 in being performed. This collaboration of Script Peoples Theatre with Christ College is staged at the state-of-the-art Christ College auditorium. This production is staged every year on 27 March (World Theatre Day). YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. As we Indians have the whole world looking up towards us as a nation with great potential, I need to ask myself how can I as an individual contribute towards a nation’s progress?

Our country is not just looking at politicians, bureaucrats, government agencies, private bodies, IT, BT or BPO. To make India developed by 2020 it is the common man on the streets who has to contribute towards this endeavor. Dreams are what a common man sleeps with, but he gets up to face the hard reality of life. To achieve a developed India by the year 2020, we at Script Peoples Theatre use theatre as the medium to achieve that vision by putting the spot light on that COMMON MAN, who is never lit up in the glaring lights of the politician or the software engineer.

Vision 2020 is a fifteen year plan given to Christ College by SPT as stepping stones to development by using the theatre methodology to ignite the youth of today to contribute to the development of our nation. Vision 2020 is a mega theatrical event in Bangalore city, getting that comman man to the limelight.

Vision 2020 is A.P.J Abdul Kalam’s vision document for a developed India. This is a well researched and practical road map that aims at using technology in a very large way and fuse it with various sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, etc.  

Script Peoples Theatre in association with Christ College presents the VISION 2020 theatre project. This is a unique attempt at using theatre to help contribute to the Vision 2020 dream. This annual production is Bangalore’s biggest theatre production in recent times. In 2006, this production focused on India – Yesterday, Today, & Tomorrow. In 2007, the production focused on the lesser known aspects of the lives of Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Tereza and Abdul Kalam in The Trilogy.  Both these productions involved 100 + actors who comprise teachers, software professionals, home makers, business men, students and so on. The productions were staged for about 10,000 people in Bangalore and Ooty. The objective being, to create positive transformations in people to enable them to work for the development of India.

To be a part of this unique venture the first step is to be a part of the Proscenium Theatre Certificate course conducted at Christ College, Bangalore – voted among the top ten colleges in India.
